2010 is the first year for the Standish Summerfest. Every week until the end of summer, there will be some kind of musical act located in the gazebo and at the Depot in Downtown Standish. From the Rifle River Folk Strings to classic Buddy Holly songs, the Summerfest has entertainment for music fans of all types, and it is free. more
Share your Michigan adventure with us The weather is getting hotter, and the sun is out more often than not. In the state of Michigan, this means that it’s time for that big family trip, to make those memories that you will never forget. Whether it’s a trip with the family, or just a trip with best friends, more than likely there will be fun times to be had. We here at the Arenac Independent want to hear about everyone’s own Michigan adventure. The state of Michigan has plenty of vacation destinations within just a few hours’ drive. Whether it’s that summer fishing trip to the Upper Peninsula, a weekend on the lake, or camping in one of the state’s many unique campgrounds, we would like to hear our readers’ stories. Why? Because in the next couple of weeks, the Arenac Independent will be starting the “Our Story” picture section, in which we will post pictures from our readers’ recent trips. From the Keewanee Peninsula, to wooded lands of Northen Michigan and the bustling cities of the mitten, there is a lot to do and a lot to see for tourists of all kinds, and we want to do our part to promote our state. From one-day short trips to weeklong vacations, there are a lot of memories to be shared. Take a little time to share your story with us. All of the state of Michigan can take a sigh of relief that one of the most iconic sports figures in the nation is staying home, and staying loyal to Michigan State University. Finally, an already rich and famous person turned down more money for the love and loyalty that he has for his school and his state. Tom Izzo leads by example by showing that hard work, love and loyalty can get you anywhere. more
