ARENAC EASTERN — Arenac Eastern’s boys’ basketball team outscored Fairview by nine in the first and fourth quarters en route to a 73-55 victory.

“I thought our guards did a very nice job getting the ball down the court even when Fairview pressed full court. So far in the two games that we played, we were able to finish the games very strong,” said coach Bob Morgan. “That didn’t happen last year. We had four players in double figures for scoring in both games. That is always good to see.”

John Chmura led the way with 17. Caleb Whitney and Kyle Zobel both scored 16 and Graham Morgan added 12.

The boys host Hillman on Dec. 14. AE is sitting at 2-0.

SSC pounds down the road rivals

STANDISH-STERLING — It’s only about ten miles from Standish to Pinconning, but the Panthers probably made the ride home seem longer for the Spartans, dominating their NEMC rivals 85-38 on Thursday.

“The three-ball was falling last night. … Pinny chose to play a zone all night forcing us to attack from the outside,” said SSC coach Kevin King. “Eleven 3 pointers in one game is an incredible accomplishment.”

Abbye Gulvas led the Panthers on offense, putting up 16 points, while Brooke Bartlett and Kelsye Mielke added 14 and 13 respectively. Bartlett was a leader from the arc, hitting four three-pointers. Gulvas knocked down three shots from long-range and Emily Meschke and Alli Collier both made two three-pointers.

Cassidy Vieau was the high scorer for the Spartans, dropping 20 points.

SSC, 3-0, hosts Alcona on Dec. 15. Pinconning, 1-3, hosts Shepherd Dec. 15.
