AE board extends superintendent’s contract

TWINING — The Arenac Eastern school board recently performed an evaluation of Superintendent Bill Grusecki, which resulted in a contract extension.

Grusecki was given a one-year extension, which keeps him under contract through June 30, 2013. He has been the superintendent since December 2009.

The board voted on seven categories that included, professional leadership and personal actions, institutional leadership, community relations, business and finance, employee relations, board relations, and student relations.

The board rated Grusecki from one to five, with five being the highest mark. Grusecki said the review went very well.

“My average was 4.27,” he said.

Grusecki added that the board would like to see the school presented in the community more.

“We are going to improve our online presence and get information out to the community more,” he said.

Grusecki added that the school district may be facing harder times with Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposed budget cuts, adding that the district could face a loss of $190,000 with the purposed cuts.

“We are bracing for everything right now,” he said. “We are doing a lot of things now to help protect the district from those potential cuts.”

The district may have to wait for a new bus and other improvements, Grusecki said.

“We are going to have to put things on hold for a while,” he said. “We are just going to have to hold off on a few things and make due with what we have for a few years.”

Grusecki said that everyone in the district is planning ahead and staying positive. He added that no cuts to personnel and programs are planned.

“Overall, we are doing OK,” he said. “We all just have to stay positive and have a backup plan in place.”
