AE hires new principal
Hire to create vacancy on board
TWINING — Arenac Eastern school board member Bill Lake has been offered the K-12 principal position at Arenac Eastern, but cannot officially take over the position until he resigns from the board.
During the AE school board’s Oct. 7 meeting, Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski said Lake will also have to resign from his job as a math teacher at the Hale Area School District.
“He has to be released from his current employer, and that looks to happen early next week,” he said.
Kroczaleski added that he had a conversation with Hale Superintendent Ron Kraft, and it does not seem like there will be an issue getting Lake employed at AE. He said he does not believe the school board will have to hold a special meeting to accept Lake’s resignation from the board.
Kroczaleski said it is likely Lake would be able to assume his job as principal the week of Oct. 14.
Two people were interviewed for the principal position, Kroczaleski said.
“We had four individuals interview for the principal job,” he said. “We had 15, 16 applications. We narrowed it down to seven. I did reference checks on those and we interviewed two.”
Lake will replace Gary Marchel, a former Au Gres-Sims superintendent, who has served as interim principal to begin the school year.
The board will also have to replace Lake, Kroczaleski said.
“Once he resigns, then our clock starts ticking,” he said. “We have 30 days to find a replacement.”
