AGS sends a couple to state finals

BRECKENRIDGE — Two AuGres-Sims track team members made the state finals cut at Saturday's Division 4 track regional at Breckenridge, with a number of others earning regional medals for their performances.

AuGres-Sims' Kadie Kachmaryk and Emily Lutz took regional titles in the pole vault and shot put, respectively, Kachmaryk won with a leap of 7-6, while Lutz won the shot by nearly a foot with a throw of 32-4.75.

AGS finished fourth in the team scoring behind Beal City, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart and Blanchard-Montabella. Hale finished 10th, Whittemore-Prescott took 11th and Mio was 13th.

Other AGS medallists included Lutz in the discus (3rd, 92-0); Brandi Willett in high jump (6th, 4-4) and 100 hurdles (7th, 19.73); Kelsey Heinrich, Adriane Swaffield, Kachmaryk and Anita Rollins in the 4x800 relay (5th, 11:09.71); the 4x200 relay (3rd, 2:01.67); Heinrich in the 1600 (8th, 6:32.13) and 3200 (7th, 14:49.62); the 4x100 relay (8th, 58.65); Rollins in the 800 (4th, 2:43.66); and the 4x400 relay (7th, 4:51.52).

Whittemore-Prescott got medals from Larrissa McGeathy in the discus (6th, 88-2) and shot put (3rd, 30-9); Jessica Dietzel in the 100 hurdles (6th, 19.21) and 300 hurdles (8th, 57.09); Victoria Doebler in the 100 (6th, 13.83) and 400 (7th, 1:10.50); the 4x200 relay team (8th, 2:07.40); and Staci Ostrander in the 800 (7th, 2:50.31).

State qualifiers compete on Saturday, May 30 at Ada Forest Hills Eastern near Grand Rapids.
