Alger Parks and Recreation holding Christmas party

ALGER — The Forest Lake Clubhouse will play host to crafts and a book reading Saturday, Dec. 15, when the Alger Parks and Recreation group holds its first ever Christmas party.

Marion Chard, president of the parks and recreation group, said they wanted to give local children some fun activities for the holidays.

“It’s something we’re really looking forward to,” Chard said. “It’s something simple, but kids love it, and it gives them something to do.”

The party will run from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and starts with a book reading by Chard. She said Santa Claus is expected to arrive during the book reading to finish up “The Night Before Christmas,” before meeting with children for Christmas photos.

Meanwhile, the kids will be able to work on Christmas-related crafts, and get to decorate the frames for their Santa pictures. Chard said candy canes and juice would also be available.

The Alger Parks and Recreation group has only been together for about a year, Chard said, and this is a new event for them. She is expecting approximately 60-65 children based on the turnout they had for their Easter egg hunt in the spring.

The party is free to the public; the clubhouse is located on 6180 Bobcat Trail in the Forest Lake community in Alger.
