Area bowlers qualify for states

BAY CITY — A number of high school bowlers qualified for the MHSAA state finals with their performances in regional competition on Saturday, Feb. 28 at multiple locations around the Bay City area.

Ten individuals qualified by recording the best six-game totals. Area qualifiers included Benjamin Skidmore of Pinconning (3rd place regional finish, 1249), Kyle Turner of Ogemaw Heights (6th, 1232), Ian MacMurray of Tawas Area (7th, 1225) and Zachary Fyling of John Glenn (9th, 1195).

Whittemore-Prescott's David LaPoint advanced to the individual finals, finishing sixth overall with a score of 1172.

Standish-Sterling's Kierstin Sanch earned a trip to the finals with a score of 1087, good for ninth.

The Division 2 state finals take place at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights, with Division 3 at Airport Lanes in Jackson. Both are held March 6-7.
