ARENAC COUNTY — The Arenac County Building Department will be moving to its summer hours a month early, opening Mondays for three hours beginning March 26.
The Arenac County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the change Tuesday, March 20 after Commissioner Robert Luce pointed out that people looking to begin construction work have been calling the office while it is closed.
“It’s 80 degrees out and contractors are working now,” Luce said. “We’re getting requests.”
With the change, the department will be open from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Mondays through at least Oct. 31. It will retain its year-round hours for Tuesday through Thursday of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Luce said this was not intended to be a permanent change for the department’s schedule, but rather owes to the unseasonably warm weather the region is experiencing. “This weather may never happen again,” Luce said.
Furthermore, he said it would not cost the county too much more, since the five additional Mondays comes out to 15 extra hours.
