STANDISH — Members of the Standish American Legion and VFW posts held a ceremony in front of the county courthouse to honor those who served in the military Nov. 11 at about 11 a.m.
VFW Post Commander John Harrod thanked the men and women who have served and are serving in the armed forces, stating in his remarks that while they hope to live in a peaceful world, it did not seem to be so peaceful lately.
Post Chaplain Donald Reshott gave a prayer for not only the veterans and current servicemen and women, but also for the people who worked in the manufacturing sector making equipment and weapons for them.
Harrod said that normally the ceremony is sparsely attended due to cold weather, but noticed a small crowd had gathered in the balmy 60-degree weather that morning. A rifle squad fired their guns three times, while “Taps” was played for the fallen veterans.
