Arenac voters favor Santorum

ARENAC COUNTY — Rick Santorum eked out a victory over GOP rival Mitt Romney in Arenac County in the primary election Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Santorum gained 583 votes within the county, while Romney followed close behind with 570. Ron Paul was a distant third with 168 votes, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich walked away with 87 votes. Another 14 voters were “uncommitted.”

Four voters went for Rick Perry, while Michelle Bachmann gathered three votes. Buddy Roemer received one vote.

President Barack Obama, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, received 104 votes, while another 21 Democratic voters were “uncommitted.”

Overall 1,558 Arenac County residents voted in the election.
