HILLMAN — AuGres-Sims' best effort of the season wasn't quite enough Thursday as Hillman was able to hang on to its unbeaten record with a 63-57 victory over the Wolverines.
The Wolverines, who trailed 47-42 after three quarters, pulled to within one point in the late-going, but missed free throws and a couple of untimely turnovers ended their comeback hopes.
"We haven't learned to win these kinds of games yet," said AGS coach Gordie Ostrander. "We had our chances. We did a lot of good things, but we also made some mistakes that were costly."
The Wolverines, who finished 8-of-20 at the free throw line for the game, were just 1-of-7 in the fourth quarter.
Chad Taylor led the Wolverines (3-4, 2-2 North Star League) with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Alex Lutz had 11 points and five assists, A.J. Baker scored 10 points and had six rebounds and Travis Byard had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Andrew Smith led Posen (6-0, 3-0) with 16 points and Myron Tracey had 12.
