AuGres lights up new streets
AuGRES — The AuGres City Council started renovating the town center streets last fall and soon it will begin the final stage of renovation with a street lighting project, which will entail decorative lighting along with the poles Consumers Energy has provided.
According to AuGres City Manager Pat Killingbeck, Master Electric was awarded the winning bid for the decorative lighting project with their bid of $66,043. Work on the lighting project begins October 1 and is scheduled to wrap up by month’s end.
Funds for the project were gathered through grants and money that the city council has set aside for renovation purposes.
Killingbeck says the community is satisfied with the entire street project.
“Before we started the (street) project, I was getting calls all the time about potholes and poor roads,” Killingbeck said. “Ev-eryone lived on the worst street in town.”
The AuGres city manager believes with four lanes running throughout most of the town center and the work being curbside for the most part, there won’t be too many traffic problems during the process.
“There might be a few times where roads have to be blocked off, but it shouldn’t become a problem by any means,” said Killingbeck.
She also says city officials and residents are looking forward to the final product of last fall and this fall’s project.
“We’re very excited to complete the street project,” Killing-beck said. “We’re happy to have nice streets.”
