Balanced scoring delivers AE win over rival AGS
TWINING — Arenac Eastern boys basketball's balanced scoring attack helped deliver a 68-51 victory over cross-town North Star rival Au Gres-Sims Jan. 14.
Three players were in double digits for the Eagles and three more scored eight. "Balanced scoring helped us get the win," AE coach Bob Morgan said.
He said the bench stepped up when two of the Eagles big men got into foul trouble. "The second string stepped up big for us and played good defense," Morgan said. "We executed good on 'D.' Their normal scorers didn't score a lot, so that tells you how well we played. Au Gres' tough, no doubt about it."
Morgan said his team played with a lot of heart and were able to overcome its poor shooting as of late. "Shooting 50 percent, instead of 26 percent, like the last two games, helped out a lot," he said.
Morgan said the Eagles are fired up after the win and hope to carry the momentum over in their game against Atlanta next week.
Kyle Zobel scored 13 points for the Eagles. Caleb Whitney had 12 on four 3-pointers and Kevin Kovacs chipped in with 11.
