Chamber of Commerce ready for “Kids Day”
STANDISH — The Standish Area Chamber of Commerce along with a number of businesses in Standish and Sterling are ready to give kids a day all their own.
On Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. children will be able to go into local businesses and participate in activities that are free or low cost.
Chamber Vice President Ruth Caldwell said Kids Day is a great way for the youth of Standish and the surrounding areas to enjoy the entire Christmas season, rather than just one day.
“The local businesses that are involved are all doing different Christmas-related activities,” she said. “These kids will be able to make crafts that they can give to their parents, or just enjoy what the businesses have to offer.”
Caldwell said that the Standish Lions Club will offer wagon rides with Santa Claus that will travel through Standish, and Saint Mary’s, Standish Hospital will be serving breakfast from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. before the festivities begin.
She said that parents can also benefit from Kids Day by getting a chance to look at local businesses.
“Kids Day is a great way for people to see the community,” Caldwell said. “For many people it is a way to meet us and to get to know who we are.”
As part of Kids Day, families will be able to enter a drawing to win a turkey for Christmas dinner, donated by the chamber and participating businesses. Caldwell said that people may sign up at local businesses or at the Standish Area Chamber of Commerce.
She added that Kids Day would not be possible without the help of its volunteers and businesses owners.
“We live in a wonderful community,” Caldwell said. “This is a very giving community.”
