AUGRES — The Arenac County Fund Committee (ACFC) raised $9,158 in this year’s auction at Dunleavy’s Eatery & Pub.

The evening began with a presentation that saw six area organizations awarded grants by the ACFC.

The Northeast Michigan Arts Council was awarded $1,000 for its Winter Concert Series, Kiwanis of Standish was awarded $1,000 for its 2008 Christmas4Kids program, Good News Ministries Lutheran Church was awarded $600 for its 2008 Food Bank program (which will be used to purchase several tons of food for the needy), Standish-Sterling Central High School was given $750 for its Prom Lock-In 2009, Arenac County MSU Extension received $1,000 for its Senior Project Fresh program and St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital was awarded $1,000 to purchase 40 child safety seats for low-income families.

After the presentation, the night continued with a live auction where many of the donated items were packaged together into assorted gift baskets.

Throughout the evening, attendees were offered an opportunity to purchase $10 squares on two raffle boards. One board consisted of gas cards and gift certificates and the other consisted of a getaway package to the Soaring Eagle Resort in Mt. Pleasant.

According to ACFC Chairperson Diane Morley, Dale Wiess was the winner of the getaway package and instead of keeping the prize he sold it to Nancy Selle, AuGres Township, for $200 and donated the proceeds to the Arenac County Fund.

“That was a really nice gesture,” Morley said. “All in all, the whole evening was nice and a great success.”
