County adds reactivation fees

STANDISH — The Arenac County Board of Commissioners will be looking for public input at an Aug. 3 meeting on the Building Department charging a fee for the reactivation of expired building permits.

On Tuesday night, July 6, the board decided that effective Oct. 1, building permits that have expired past the original 180 day time period, and another 180 day extension period and are reactivated will have a fee attached.

“It creates more incentive for people to finish the project,” Building Department Clerk Theresa Irving said.

She said that the fee will apply to any construction that has been idle for more than a year and is resuming construction.

“This will not affect a lot of people,” Irving said.

She added that the fee “Will be reasonable,” and it will cover the cost of sending an inspector back out to look at the construction.
