D. Douglas Dudley

On the morning of Aug. 5, 2014, D. Douglas Dudley, Cowboy-of-the-Sea, 72, passed peacefully in his Standish home with family present.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1942, to the late Lois (Major) Tucker and Donald Dudley, of Standish.
Doug was in the first graduating class from the, then new, Standish-Sterling Central High School, class of 1960. He was President of the Student Council his senior year. Doug was also an outstanding, all-star athlete in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. He was a walk-on at Michigan State University in football.
With a passion for the ocean, Doug spent a good part of his life as a boat Captain, scuba/salvage diver, and treasure hunter in the waters of the Bahamas and up to the Carolina’s. He called Wilmington, N.C. “home” for many years.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and nature enthusiast. He loved teaching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews how to hunt and fish, ride horses, drive boats and cars...fast, swim, scuba dive, water-ski, snow ski, and to appreciate nature. Above all, Doug valued his family.
Doug is survived by six children, sons, Jason (Catherine) Robert Dudley of Sacramento, Calif., and Roger Bukowski, of Standish; daughters, Dina (Bruce) Dallas, of Au Gres, Deborah DeAnn Dudley, of Standish, Ronda (Darren)Roebuck, of Littleton, Colo., DeLynn Dudley, of Littleton, Colo.; six grandchildren, SSGT Cameron (Sondra) Stewart, of Jacksonville, N.C., Justin Trett, USMC, of Williamsburg, Ky., Afton Trett, of St. Cloud, Fla., Emiley Dudley of Folsom, Calif., Kellen Dudley, of Sacramento, Calif., Joey Roebuck, of Littleton, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Charles Tyler Stewart, Gracie Lyn Stewart and Ellie Mae Stewart; three sisters, Diane Dudley, of Au Gres, Doreen (Bari) Bell, of Standish and Danielle (Stephen) Hollingsworth; one brother, Dustin (Jessica) Dudley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. All beloved.
There will be no funeral services. Condolence may be sent to P.O. Box 144, Au Gres, MI 48703. A private, family gathering, to celebrate his life and tell the many amazing stories of Doug Dudley, will be held on a yet-to-be-decided date.
