Depot Days holding 5K run/walk

STANDISH — While some people may be riding carnival rides or exploring historic train cars at Depot Days, a crowd of others will be trampling the streets of Standish during the first-ever Depot Days 5-kilometer run/walk on Oct. 10.

The new attraction’s coordinator, Josette Rang, said holding the race during Depot Days makes sense due to the number of people who come out to the annual celebration, now in its fifth year.

“I have run several small town races and decided there should be a race in Standish. Since Depot Days is the biggest event that draws people into town I chose to plan it in conjunction with that,” Rang said. “I’m hoping to make this an annual event and maybe start a spring race too.”

She added the race, which costs $20 to participate in for runners and walkers who would like to receive a long-sleeved shirt, or $15 for those who wish not to receive a shirt, is also helping out those in need.

“I feel it’s a good way to raise money for a charity, juvenile diabetes research, all while promoting health and wellness in our community,” Rang said.

Racers, or recreational runner and walkers, will take off from the Standish Bakery at 9 a.m. and snake through the streets of Standish, with lane closures present on streets in the 5k route.

To register for the Depot Days 5k, visit or; or pick up a registration sheet from the Standish Family Dental Center, Standish Historical Depot and Welcome Center or the Lumberjack Gym. Late registration will also be held starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Standish Bakery.

Runners will be separated into eight different age groups with the winner in each age bracket receiving a plaque.
