STANDISH — The seventh annual Depot Days Festival in Standish will be Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Standish Historical Depot.
Curt Hillman, chairman of the Arenac Heritage Route Authority, said he expects this year’s festival to be bigger than the past six years’.
“I have seen the event continue to grow over the past few years,” he said. “I think people really enjoy having this event in Standish.”
Hillman said Depot Days has raised between $5,000 and $10,000 each year for the historical depot.
“We raise about $35,000 a year for the depot between this event and other fundraisers,” he said.
This year’s festival will feature vendors, carnival rides, live musical performances, pie and chili contests, and gifts from Saganing Eagles Landing Casino.
“We wanted to have things for everyone,” Hillman said. “We have rides for the kids and other events for everyone else.”
For the second consecutive year, highlighted performers from the Standish Historical Depot’s Summer Concert Series will be featured at Depot Days. Hillman said the Arenac Heritage Route Authority takes the best performers from the concert series and invites them to Depot Days.
“They don’t really know it at the time, but when they perform in the summer, the concert series is like a tryout for Depot Days,” he said. “We want to bring the best performers, who brought the biggest crowds, back to the depot.”
Returning performers include Amanda Kari, Point Blank, Lenny Hicks, Omer City Limits and others.
Other attractions include a scrapbook display, courtesy of the Arenac County Historical and Genealogical Society, 50/50 raffles and antique tractors.
Hillman said he is excited about the event.
“I think the community is going to have a great time,” he said.
The event starts Saturday at 10 a.m. and will continue until 8 p.m. Doors open Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
