Dorothy M. Kusey, 85, a lifelong resident of Arenac County, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Horizon Senior Living in Standish.

She was born on May 28, 1929, in Prescott, to the late Stephen and Julia (Valent) Forro. Dorothy was in the first graduating class from Arenac Eastern High School in 1947, and later worked very hard as a homemaker as well as on the farm. She also spent endless hours of travel to run parts for her husband’s auto service. Dorothy was very active in the Altar Society and choir in various Catholic Churches around the area. She was a member of the towel club, Daughters of Isabella and the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Dorothy loved to winter in Florida, sing and especially enjoy her ice cream treats.

She is survived by her four children, Dennis Kusey of Sterling, Maritrese (David) Black of Midland, Jerome (Shelley) Kusey of Standish, Mark (Julie) Kusey of Williamston; daughter-in-law, Judy Kusey; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Matthew, Stephanie, Steven, Maddison, Elliot, Elizabeth; and three great-grandchildren, James, Ainsley and Kenzie. Dorothy is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Evelyn, Robert, Jerry, Al, Barbara, Edward; several nieces and nephews; and her extended family at Horizon Senior Living who provided wonderful care to her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Kusey in 2004; son, James Kusey in 1995; brother, John; and sister, Virginia.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. (instate at 9 a.m.) at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Prescott, with Rev. Lawrence Boks officiating. The place of interment will be in the Clayton Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Buresh Funeral Home in Twining.
