PINCONNING — The Pinconning varsity boys’ basketball team’s 2008-09 season is a hard one to follow, but that’s the task facing this year’s Spartans.

Last year’s team went 15-5 in regular season play, and 10-0 in North East Michigan Conference play. Coach Tim Floyd said it was the first time in school history that the Spartans went undefeated in conference play, and the first time the team had won a league championship since 2000.

“It was a great season,” he said.

Two all-conference performers, seniors Casey Pashak and Lucas Foco, will lead the Spartans this year in their quest to repeat as league champions. In addition, two more seniors, James Perry and Travis Garbulinski, received significant playing time last year, Floyd said.

With the four seniors returning to this year’s team, Floyd said the Spartans are aiming to repeat as league champions. He said NEMC foes Ogemaw Heights and Tawas Area should have solid teams this year, but believes the Spartans have the pieces in place for another league title.

“We have a little bit of everything that we need,” he said. “We hope to put it all together.”
