Bringing a little brightness to a dreary weather day, The Sunshine String Band opened the second annual summer concert series on Thursday, June 9. The Arenac Heritage Route Authority, who hosts the concert series, was pleased to welcome the Michigan bluegrass hall of fame group back to the Standish Depot. The Sunshine String Band is no stranger to the county, having performed at Depot Days as well as the summer concert series in 2010. “We love playing anything outside. This is one of our favorite gigs,” bass player Dave Maul said. Heads were bobbing and feet were tapping as the band played old favorites like Hey Good Lookin’ and Yes Sir, That’s My Baby. The concert series will continue throughout the summer, with performances taking place rain or shine. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit out and enjoy each evening event.
