Full house expected for trivia night fundraiser
Au GRES — The Arenac Community Funds trivia night fundraiser has become a popular event among past participants, and this year’s event, the seventh annual, is expected to bring many returning contestants to the Au Gres Knights of Columbus Hall Feb. 18.
Trivia night is a fundraiser for the ACF scholarship fund, and it is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Committee member Ronda Switek said people look forward to the event throughout the year.
“We have teams when they leave that say, ‘This was so much fun. We’re going to be sure to sign up,’” she said. “Most of them know they’re supposed to send registration forms to me, so I’ll be getting emails asking where the sign-up information is.”
The cost to play is $160 per team with up to eight members or $20 per person. There are 20 trivia categories with five questions per category. Answers are collected and scored after each round, Switek said.
“We pick them up, score them and then we post the answers up on the board so everybody can see what they are,” she said. “We keep a running tally of everybody’s scores, and every few rounds we’ll post them up there so everyone can see how they’re doing compared to the other team.”
Up to 32 teams will fit in the K of C Hall, and trivia night usually draws around 26-28 teams, Switek said.
“We’re hoping for some more teams,” she said. “We’ve still got room right now.”
Raffles and games are also held to help raise additional scholarship funds. Switek said the event typically raises around $4,000.
Gift cards to area businesses will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams. Players can bring their own alcoholic beverages, and finger foods will be served throughout the night. For more information, contact Switek at 989-846-5205.
