Gibson sentenced to 93 days in jail
STANDISH — Joshua Gibson has been sentenced to 93 days in prison for his role in a December purse snatching that allegedly took place inside Glen’s Market in Standish.
Two weeks after his counterpart, Dale Janz Jr., was sentenced to nine months in jail and five years probation for charges from a December robbery, Gibson was sentenced.
Gibson, 20, of Standish, pled guilty in March and was sentenced for operating a vehicle with a suspended license Wednesday, May 18.
Gibson was ordered to pay $72 in restitution to Roberta Carcio, 67, of Twining, the victim in the robbery, and $960 in other fines and penalties.
Gibson and Janz were arrested Dec. 29 in connection with the robbery. According to a police report from the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a purse snatching at Glen’s Market at 533 S. Main St. The report goes on to say that a full-size white van was involved and was followed by a witness who was on the phone with central dispatch.
The witness then reported that the van was stuck in a ditch on Pine River Road, and he said that two suspects reportedly fled on foot down Washington Street.
According to a statement by Carcio, she was shopping in her motorized scooter and was being followed around the store by a thin bald man in a black hooded sweatshirt. She added that as she approached the front of the store, the man stole her purse.
