STANDISH — Money raised at the Arenac Community Funds’ 13th annual golf outing fundraiser at Pine River Golf Course May 16 will help grow the ACF’s general endowment fund, leading to more available grant opportunities.

ACF Committee Chair Garrett Geer said the general endowment fund distributes grants annually for recreation, emergency services, arts and culture and other programs aimed at enriching and enhancing communities in Arenac County. He said the golf outing is one of two fundraisers held to support the fund.

“This event and our annual December auction event both support our general endowment fund, which is the largest endowment fund that we have,” he said. “That’s the one we grant out the lion’s share of the proceeds from.”

Geer said the golf outing, which is being presented by Forward Corporation, will have a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Geer said the ACF committee is hoping to see an uptick in participation this year.

“We had 19 teams last year,” he said. “Our goal for this year is 24.”

The cost to participate is $400 per foursome, or $100 per individual golfer. Geer said golfers who register as individual participants will be matched up with teams in need of extra golfers. Registration includes coffee and donuts, lunch and dinner and prizes.

Corporate sponsorships are also available for $500, which include a foursome and a hole sign on the course. Businesses that would like to sponsor a hole but do not wish to golf can buy a hole sign for $100, Geer said.

“A big chunk of our bottom line comes from the hole sign sponsorships,” he said.

Golfers will receive goodie bags that include donated items, including golf gear and free rounds of golf not only from host Pine River, but Huron Breeze and Knoll View, according to Geer. He said the event rotates between the three courses, and each one chips in with goodie bag items.

“Even though it’s not at Huron Breeze this year, or Knoll View, they’re kicking in support for the event,” he said.

Participants will also have the chance to get in on skins, Geer said.

“We have a number of betting holes that have prizes,” he said. “We have longest drive, closest to the pin on a number of par threes.”

Richardson Chevrolet of Standish is once again donating a car, a 2014 Buick LaCrosse, which can be won with a hole-in-one at the outing, Geer said.

“We’ve yet to give away a car, but we’re looking forward to doing that,” he said.
