Here are some stories we're reading: Cancer therapies and fiscal cliffs
Wednesday, we launched a new feature that you will find each day on our websites: stories that we are reading. Monday through Friday, one of our editorial staff members will be linking to state, national and world stories that they are reading that you might be interested in. Watch for it every day.
Here is what we've been reading today:
- From the BBC, a team of researchers in the U.K. have developed an experimental cancer therapy that hides cancer-killing viruses in white blood cells, similar to the Trojan horse. The therapy appears to work in mice, and they hope to start human trials next year.
- On NPR, House Speaker John Boehner pulled the plug on his "Plan B" fiscal cliff plan to extend tax cuts Thursday night after being unable to muster the votes to pass it. The House then adjourned for the Christmas holiday.
- The Detroit News reported the snowstorm that hit Michigan dumped 18 inches of snow in some portions of the state, knocking out power to about 79,000 residents.
