Hot start helps SSC girls ride out victory


BAY CITY — Standish-Sterling Central’s girls basketball team got off to a hot start Dec. 29 when it went up 17-0 over the Bay City Central Wolves at the end of the first quarter.

The quick start helped the Lady Panthers to a 58-39 victory Tuesday night.

Brooke Bartlett was the leading point getter for SSC with 17 points, including five treys. Abbye Gulvas added 10.

For BCC, Carly Crites and Whitney Henry tied with 10 points for the Wolves’ leading scorer.

SSC (6-2, 1-1) faces off against Roscommon on Jan. 5 in Standish.
