PINCONNING — Saturday, Nov. 1, All Star Academy will open its doors to the public at 11 a.m. for an open house in which it will reveal its state of the art baseball/softball equipment.

According to complex manager and former Pinconning Softball Coach Dale Billingsley, the facility is open to any and all area ballplayers and coaches who want to improve their skills in an environment equipped with better-than-traditional utilities.

“We want to offer ball players the best opportunity to practice and improve their game,” Billingsley said.

He says the pitching machines, which have a full-size visual screen of a pitcher in his/her natural delivery, go beyond the old fashioned batting cages that are inconsistent and unreliable.

“This system was put together by a company from Georgia that incorporated the screen into top-of-the-line pitching machines from California,” Billingsley said. “It’s a complete advancement from the old style where you never knew when the ball is coming.”

He says the facility, which is located off Pinconning Road on Van Etten Street behind the Magline building, began construction in an old pole barn back in August with funding from Don and Dawn LaBean and will be complete with an all-spike Astroturf, meaning it’s suitable for cleats as well.

“Don has been so generous to the community,” Billingsley said. “He’s funding everything and has done so much for the community already.
