Injured-Spartans forfeit matches in light of finals match-up

BULLOCK CREEK — Pinconning's wrestling team wasn't wrestling with its full lineup Wednesday, and that probably kept the Spartans from a win over Freeland in their Division 3 regional semifinal match.
Freeland took advantage of three Pinconning voids — worth 18 points — to defeat the Spartans 48-32. Pinny coach Wayne Purtell held out Adam Pawelski, Tyler Wieland and Coty Swinson, all of who qualified for this Saturday's individual regional and were nursing injuries.
The Spartans may well have beaten the Falcons with those three in the lineup. But the ultimate goal, getting to the team state finals, was not going to happen; 33-1 Swan Valley waited in the championship match, and trampled Freeland 68-12.
The Spartans got wins from Taylor Pomaville (112 pounds), Tyler Espitia (135), Seth Haas (140), Charlie Burch (145), Brian Hardy (152) and Arthur Espitia (103).
