Lady Panthers strong fourth not enough to catch Braves

TAWAS — Standish-Sterling Central girls' basketball was unable to catch the Braves despite a strong fourth-quarter showing for the Panthers.

SSC trailed 25-41 going into the final quarter. And even though they were able to outscore Tawas Area 17-9, they couldn't bridge the gap any further, losing by a final score of 50-42.

Christina Proulx led the Panthers with 11 and Allison Collier kicked in seven during the loss.

Leading the Braves in scoring were Aubrey Thoryk with 16, Rachel Adaline, who scored her 1,000th career point in the win, with 15 and Dana Kolnitys with 10.

The Panthers fall to 2-4, 1-1 on the season and they'll be in Alpena on Dec. 21 for an out-of-conference matchup.

The Braves remain atop of the NEMC with a 1-1 record in-conference and a 2-2 overall.
