Local church looking for clothes to donate
AuGRES — St. Paul Lutheran Church in AuGres will be donating bags of clothes to people in need Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This is the second year that the church is accepting donations to give away to less fortunate people.
“Last year we gave away 200 garbage bags full of clothes,” Pastor Tim Bender said.
He said for last year’s giveaway people came from as far away as Saginaw.
“We also had people come from Tawas and Oscoda, but the majority of people were from AuGres and Standish,” Bender said.
He said the reason the church donates the clothes is because it is one way the church can help people in the area who are less fortunate.
“The economy in Arenac County is not the best,” Bender said. “People are in need.”
Those looking to make a donation will be able to do so on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at St. Paul.
Bender said the church has been advertising the giveaway with fliers around town and by telling other local charities.
He said people who use those charities will know about the clothes giveaway.
“We will give clothes to anyone in need,” Bender said.
He added that it is important to give away clothes because they wear out over time.
“It’s good to clothe families,” Bender said. “This is a great way to help individuals in need.”
Bender said anyone who has questions can call St. Paul Lutheran Church at, 989-876-7415.
St. Paul is located at 1264 S. Tonkey Rd. in AuGres.
