The Standish Veterans of Foreign War Post #3724 and its Ladies’ Auxiliary are hosting the 38th annual Standish Loyalty Day parade, which was assigned the theme “honoring all who serve our nation,” on Saturday April 25.

Marilyn Metiva, parade organizer says floats or marching units interested in participating in the parade can register to roll down Cedar Street all the way up to the day of the event. The Cedar Street parade route will assemble at Airpark Drive at 11:30 a.m. and begin the march to Standish Elementary at 12 noon.

Loyalty Day was first observed in 1958 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a way to honor loyalty to the U.S.

According to material supplied by Metiva, past Loyalty Day parades in Standish have been attended by Governors, state senators and representatives, civic groups, veterans’ groups, boy and girls scouts and more.

This year’s Parade Marshall in Rick Weishuhn.
