AuGRES-SIMS - Oct. 2, 2008 - AuGres-Sims twice played to the brink of winning at least one game against visiting Mio AuSable in a North Star League volleyball match on Thursday.

The Thunderbolts made the plays when it counted, though, edging the Wolverines in the first two games and winning easily in the third game, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19.

The Wolverines had their best chance in the opener, coming back from a 23-20 deficit to take a 24-23 lead on point by Brandi Willett and Kelsey Heinrich's ace. But after hitting the would-be game-winner just out of bounds, Mio was able to serve out the final two points for the win.

AGS came back in similar fashion in the second game, bouncing back from down 23-20 and tying it at 23-23 on a Willett kill and a Tasha Trombley ace. Mio recovered to take the final two points, with Kelsie Blamer's ace providing the clincher.

Kayla Lefler and Courtney Martin's front-line play in the third game helped the Bolts build a 22-12 lead. AGS cut it to 24-19 before the Bolts were able to finish it off.

Mio improved to 3-4 in North Star League play, while AGS dropped to 1-6.
