Dear graduating seniors,

This is it—you finally made it. It’s time to take that next big step in your lives.

If there is anything you need to know about the next four or five years of your life, it’s this: enjoy every moment.

I remember my first day of college like it was just last year. Walking in and not knowing what was in front of me was scary. I look back now and think about how ridiculous that really was.

For those of you who have made the decision to go to college, remember, college is not scary. Don’t be a slacker. If you do the work and manage your time, you can go to class and still have fun.

Your college years will be over before you realize it, and when you finish college—that is the real test.

Remember to keep your family close. Take the time to visit the people who care about you the most. Just because you are going away does not mean that you need to distance yourself.

People always told me that most of the people you called “friends” in high school would not be there anymore.

Although that may be true for some people, with the surge in Facebook users, that doesn’t have to be the case.

Some friends will go away, not to be seen again until 15 years from now, but the people you are close with will stay close to you through social media.

You will also meet new friends. Remember to choose the right crowd. Pick people who have common sense and the drive to make something of themselves, because there is more to school than just having fun.

Just remember to enjoy the time you have. College is a great experience and those who go should try and enjoy everything it has to offer.

For those going into the military, we all thank you. Many people I know went into the service and have come home as great people.

I can’t speak from experience, but I know that the military is a great way to begin your post education career.

So congratulations, Class of 2011. Keep focused, stay sharp, and work hard, and you will reach your goals.
