Non-life threatening injuries reported in Truck Trails snowmobile accident

ADAMS TWP. — A Midland woman suffered back pain after colliding with a tree while riding a snowmobile in the Sterling Truck Trails Feb. 8.

Peggy Gerstacker, 58, was riding with five other snowmobilers about four miles west of Lucas Road in Adams Township when she reportedly left the trail and struck a tree, according to Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre.

He said Gerstacker was going around a corner on a 2004 Ski-Doo and went off the trail before striking a tree. McIntyre said the accident occurred near the Arenac-Gladwin county line.

Gerstacker was transported via MMR to St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital. McIntyre said the Sterling Area Fire Department and Conservation Officers responded to the accident, which occurred around 11:40 a.m.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to McIntyre. He said snowmobile accidents are not common on the Truck Trails.

“We don’t handle many ATV or snowmobile accidents out there during the course of the year,” he said.
