A group of area women collectively known as the “Omer bakers” were honored for their dedication over the past year during a dinner at the Ye Olde Courthouse in Omer Nov. 25. The bakers are responsible for providing baked goods sold throughout the year to help raise funds to keep the bills paid at the courthouse. They also help out with various Arenac County Historical Society functions. Since Christmas 2012, The bakers have sold more than $1,900 in baked goods, and assisted in a junk sale, candy sale and wreath sale that have combined to raise nearly another $1,000. Various Christmas decorations were on sale during the dinner, and a gift exchange was also held during the event.
