One dead in accident on Maple Ridge Road


CLAYTON TWP. — An accident July 5 on Maple Ridge Road near Reed Road has left one man dead.

According to Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre, at approximately 5:35 p.m. Robert Jarrard Jr. of West Branch had stopped his vehicle in the roadway on Maple Ridge Road and gotten out of the car when he was reportedly struck by a 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer.

McIntyre said Jarrard was flown to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported in the accident, he said.

No citations or complaints have been issued at this time for the incident. McIntyre said the sheriff’s department is still processing the information from the accident scene and vehicles. At the conclusion of the investigation, the information will be given to the county prosecutor’s office for review, he said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
