PINCONNING — With rumors circulating about the possibility of the closing of Mount Forest Elementary School, Pinconning Area Schools Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski said that at this time, there are no plans to close any of the district’s elementary schools.

“We have been looking at facility consolidation, but we’re in the preliminary stages,” Kroczaleski said Thursday. “We’ve talked about looking at enrollment numbers. We’re getting information together.”

Kroczaleski said the issue likely would not be discussed at Pinconning’s next board meeting, Jan. 25, but that it may come up at the district’s first February meeting. He added that no decision would be made whether to close any schools at that time, just whether or not to go ahead with the gathering of information.

He added that he’s heard the rumor that Mount Forest would be closed before.

“That rumor’s lived a long time,” he said.

Kroczaleski did say that if the district did decide to shut down one of its elementary schools, it would be either Mount Forest, or Linwood Elementary.

“Those are the two smaller ones,” he said. He added that while there are no current plans to shut down any of the schools, it still could be a possibility in the future.

“I’m not saying it’s out of the question,” Kroczaleski said.
