PINCONNING — The Pinconning Area Schools Board of Education unanimously selected Dawn LaBean as its new member at the district’s meeting on Tuesday, June 28.
LaBean is replacing former board member Keith Bock, who resigned on June 13 after being convicted of one count of fourth degree sexual misconduct May 23.
Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski said the board had 30 days from Bock’s resignation to have the seat filled. He said LaBean will have a positive influence on the district.
“She already has a connection with this district,” Kroczaleski said. “She had a strong interest in serving.”
“She is coming into this position positive, and she is a positive person,” he added.
LaBean said when she saw the position open she wanted to be a part of the board, adding that she has three children enrolled in the district.
“I saw this position present itself and I saw it as a great opportunity to get my foot in the door,” she said. “I wanted to be more active with the school (district) and I believe this is a great opportunity.”
LaBean is not without experience; she has served on the Pinconning Youth Baseball and Softball League Board for the past seven years.
“I have never been in a (school board) position like this before,” she said. “I believe that I can bring a positive attitude and be a positive asset to the board.”
LaBean said she is up to the challenge of helping the board make tough decisions for the district.
“It is going to be difficult at times,” she said. “I will do my best to make good decisions for the best interest of the school. As a member of this team I am going to do my best and I know we will do the best that we can.”
“I am looking forward to this,” she added.
One other candidate was considered for the board member position. LaBean’s term will end in January 2012 and the board member seat will be up for election again this November.
