Pinconning school bus involved in collision
LINWOOD — Three people suffered minor injuries as the result of a collision involving a Pinconning Area School Bus on the corner of M-13 and Linwood Road in Linwood.
The accident occurred on Thursday, October 14 at approximately 3:22 p.m. The bus was occupied with students, but none were injured.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Department, the bus driven by Tina Letson, of Tawas City, turned in front of a Honda Accord attempting to turn east onto Linwood Road from southbound M-13.
Lt. Jim Chlebowski said Leston was at fault for the accident.
“She was cited for failure to yield the right of way,” he said.
The driver of the Accord, Denice Novak, the passenger Joshua Mckenzie, and Leston all suffered minor injuries.
Pinconning Area Schools Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski said the bus had around 15 students onboard, filled with mostly middle school students. He said Leston is undergoing testing, and will return when she completes the tests.
“She has been with us for 15 years,” Kroczaleski said. “She is an excellent employee and an excellent driver.”
He said when a bus driver is involved in an accident they are required to pass a number of tests.
“(Leston) is currently on leave until she passes the required tests,” Kroczaleski said. “I would like to say that she will be back in a week, but I am not sure at this time.”
