Police arrest one suspect on marijuana growing charges

AuGRES — The Michigan State Police, along with the STING Narcotics Group of West Branch have arrested one suspect after allegedly discovering marijuana being grown at a residence in AuGres.

During a random check on a sex offender residing in AuGres Township , troopers from the Michigan State Police Post of East Tawas discovered suspected marijuana growing activities, according to a news release from the police post.

According to the release, a search warrant was obtained and more than 100 suspected marijuana plants were discovered along with cultivated or processed suspected marijuana.

Lt. Jeff Keister, of STING in West Branch, said that STING assisted in the operation and investigation.

“The State Police performed their investigation and we were called in to help assist them,” he said. “We are here to help support local law enforcement whenever they need us.”

Keister said that the owner of the residence did not cooperate when police arrived.

STING operates in Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Roscommon and Crawford counties.
