ARENAC COUNTY — Electricity has been returned to approximately 6,000 Consumers Energy customers after a planned outage Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Power was out between Standish and Rose City from 5 p.m. until 8:08 p.m. in order to make repairs to a damaged power line.

According to a press release from Consumers Energy, the area impacted by the outage was bordered by Townline Road to the north, M-55 to the south, Henderson Lake Road/Melita Road to the west, and M-33 to the east. Customers in the following townships also may have been affected: Bourret, Clayton, Churchill, Deep River, Mills, Moffatt and Richland.

Spokesperson Debra Dodd said the damaged power line was noticed during a flyover on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

“We noticed that the line needed to be repaired,” she said.

Consumers Energy Vice President of Energy Delivery Garrick Rochow said the weather forecast increased the seriousness of the damaged line.

“With rain expected to reach this area within the next 24 hours, it is critical that we make repairs at this time to help ensure the safety and reliability of our electric system,” he said.

Dodd added that work on the line was scheduled to be completed on Tuesday but special equipment needed to be brought in to complete the work.

“Upon looking at the line further we knew that we were going to need some special equipment to finish the project,” she said. “That is why the project was pushed back to Wednesday.”

According to the press release, one of the issues customers were concerned about was missing game four of the American League Championship Series matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers.

Consumers Energy Vice President of Energy Delivery Garrick Rochow said the company was appreciative of customers’ patience.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience while we interrupt their electric service, and recognize it may inconvenience those who want to watch the Detroit Tigers playoff game.”
