Seminar tries to raise awareness about dangers within the home

STANDISH — A trip over a cord or a stumble caused from the family cat doesn’t seem like a big deal, but research in 1981 from the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission revealed 600,000 emergency room visits from people aged 65 or older are the result of such incidents.

And according to Lisa Lemke, an occupational therapist from St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital (SMMSH), that number hasn’t dropped over the years.
