Readers, what is this thing?

Area motorists traveling on southbound M-13 Thursday night around 7 p.m. were probably thinking to themselves "What the heck is that thing?" when they saw the item pictured on the truck trailer.

The photographer says the truck hauling the item was being escorted by other vehicles down the highway, and he also says to him, it looked a lot like Apollo space capsules with attached rocket stages that sat atop the Saturn V Rockets NASA used in the moon shots.

To add to the confusion, the photographer also saw an identical "thing" further along on M-13.

The editor of the Independent speculated that the "thing" was a silo, however Arenac County Conservation District Administrator Kevin Wilson said he'd never seen a silo that looked like that before.

The photo was also forwarded to sheriff James Mosciski and undersheriff Donald McIntyre.

"We have no idea what that is," McIntrye said.

I don't know, but I also seen them moving south bound on M33 just south of Mio on Friday around noon. They were huge. They took up about one and a half lanes of traffic.
