SSC board selects Kolevar to fill vacancy
STANDISH — Dennis Kolevar said being a lifelong Standish-Sterling Community Schools resident, as well as the father of two children, was enough to prompt him to apply for a vacancy on the SSC Board of Education.
The board appointed Kolevar on Sept. 13 to fill the board vacancy left by the resignation of former trustee Melanie Sobieray. Kolevar added that his term on the board runs through December 2011.
He said he is pleased to serve a district with SSC’s quality.
“I’ve lived in the community my whole life,” Kolevar said. “It’s a beautiful school district. I want to see improvement in the district.”
According to Kolevar, his experience as an account liaison for a home care company has helped him learn to appreciate different perspectives on a given issue, and will benefit him on the school board.
“I work with a variety of people,” he said. “I can take opinions from everyone and do what’s best for the community.”
Kolevar said state funding of public schools is going to be the biggest issue he faces as a board member, as well as determining how to use available funds in the best possible way for the district.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Kolevar said of his upcoming tenure on the board. “Any time anyone needs something, they can get a hold of me.”
