FRANKENMUTH — Standish-Sterling wasn't about to let anything mar its first-ever unbeaten regular season in school history on Friday, blasting out to a 28-0 halftime lead at Frankenmuth and coasting to a 35-0 victory.

The Panthers added to another in a lengthening line of program firsts, including the first-ever back-to-back North East Michigan Conference titles, a school-record fourth straight playoff appearance. It's also the first time the team has had five straight winning seasons since the first five years the school was open, 1958-62.

The quest to make the deepest playoff run in school history -- surpassing last season's run to the regional finals -- begins next week with a home playoff contest.

"The guys stepped up and made sure our ninth win was not going to get away," said SSC coach Paul Walderzak. "It was another great team effort.

"I am really happy for and proud of this team and coaches, and the community and school support has been great."

The Panthers scored on the game's opening possession, capping their first drive with a 24-yard pass from Austin Collier to Cole Walderzak.

Casey Potts added a 10-yard run on the Panthers' next possession, and Collier added scoring runs of 64 and 33 yards in the second quarter.

Collier's 22-yard pass to Trent Fouchey in the third quarter ended the scoring.

Collier finished with 134 yards rushing on just six carries and completed 3-of-5 passes for 54 yards. Potts added 61 yards on eight carries as well as a 57-yard punt return and Trevor Trombley had six carries for 56 yards and was 5-of-5 on extra point kicks.

Adam Gulvas had 10 tackles and a sack, Kevin Reeves had seven tackles, Zach Neid had eight, James Bashor recovered three fumbles and forced one and Jaron Trombley had two sacks.

Frankenmuth ended its season at 4-5, its first losing season since 2002.
