SSC girls top Roscommon

STANDISH — The Standish-Sterling Central girls basketball squad beat the Roscommon Bucks 63-44 on Jan. 5.

SSC coach Kevin King told the Independent after the game that the Panthers didn't shoot well in the win.

"We had wondered, coming into the season, what would happen if we didn't shoot well," he said.

What ensued was the front court picked up a lot of offensive rebounds and made quite a few putbacks.

"It's better to win ugly, than to lose ugly," King said.

Leading the Panthers in scoring were Abbye Gulvas with 15 points, Kiersten Sanch with nine and Christina Proulx with nine points. Proulx also added 10 boards while Emily Meschke and Allison Collier snagged four steals.

Olivia Meadows led the Bucks with eight points.

The Panthers (7-2, 1-1) travel to Whittemore-Prescott for an in-conference matchup Jan. 7.
