CHICAGO, Ill. — Ken Stawowy, 31, of Traverse City and formerly of Sterling started running last year to get in shape. He must have accomplished his goal, since he was able to complete a 26.2-mile marathon through the heart of Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 12.

“I was not nervous at all about the race except about two minutes before the race,” Stawowy said. “It really hits you that ‘Holy cow, I’m standing here in the street in a column of people a half-mile long.’ “I forgot to stretch before we ran.”

The lack of stretching notwithstanding, Stawowy says he was still able to finish the race, which over 31,000 people participated in, in three hours, 39 minutes and 56 seconds – 3,205 out of 31,343 runners.
