STANDISH-STERLING — Standish-Sterling's North East Michigan Conference title hopes are slim at best, but the Panthers still have plenty to play for as they prepare for next month's district tournament.

SSC showed no signs of taking anyone lightly on Friday, rolling out to a huge early lead on the way to a 71-32 defeat of visiting Whittemore-Prescott.

The Panthers (8-6, 3-3 NEMC) led 26-4 after one quarter and 44-14 at the half as all but one of their 10 players scored -- all before halftime.

Ashlyn Gulvas led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, with Abbye Gulvas adding nine. Kayla Hilyard, Kelsye Mielke, Shaylyn Cuttitta and Paige Raes each scored eight and Heather Robinson added seven.

Whittemore-Prescott (1-12, 0-5) , which had just six players in uniform, was paced by Cory Durham with 15 points and Ashley Tanner with 13.
