Search is on to fill board vacancies at Standish-Sterling, Arenac Eastern
ARENAC COUNTY — A pair of school board resignations in Arenac County has the Standish-Sterling and Arenac Eastern school districts on the clock to fill the board vacancies.
Darren Kroczaleski, who serves as superintendent for both districts, said there is a 30-day period from the time a board member resigns until the vacancy has to be filled. The AE resignation by Bill Lake was effective Oct. 14, and Standish-Sterling Community Schools board member Dr. Leonard LeClair resigned effective Oct. 15.
Lake resigned to take a principal position at AE. Kroczaleski said Lake’s first day as principal was Oct. 21.
LeClair had served on the school board for more than two decades, Kroczaleski said.
“He’s been on the board for 25 years and he’d been talking about resigning for quite some time,” he said.
Kroczaleski said LeClair’s term was scheduled to end this summer.
“Originally, his term was supposed to be up June 30 of 2013, but with the changes with the election dates for board members, they extended them,” he said. “Because of the year and the law changing where board members will serve for six years, 18 months would’ve been added to his term.”
Both of the vacant positions will be advertised, Kroczaleski said.
